After watching the Channel 4 documentary about accident and emergency departments in the United Kingdom coping with increasing numbers of drunks and also my own experiences as a nurse on the front line, I firmly believe that these individuals should be made to pay, financially, for their treatment.

I think rather than billing the patients who come in with drink induced injuries the standard ‘fee’ for an accident and emergency visit, they should be billed for the ‘actual’ cost of their treatment. Teenage drinking is irresponsible & dangerous – this might be one way of deterring the trend, saving lives and saving the state money in the Health Service.
