Would it be an idea to tax the small number of people who win on the lotto each week instead of cutting programmes or taxing earnings? This could raise over €33 million each year. Sure if you win €5 and the shopkeeper hands you €4.50 you are still a winner, and who would turn down €1.8 million from the €2 million jackpot that happens twice a week? If it worked it could be done on Irish Euro lotto wins, Prize Bonds and any other WIN that is currently not taxed just until we get out of this mess. (They might even get away with doubling it to the current lowest tax rate of 20% just for a little while until things get better.)
So go on, tell me why it will not work and why it is better to cut Special Needs Assistants or Carers or Pensions?????
